Start small. Think enormous.
We began in Nuuk with the waterfront, colorful buildings, and time to settle in. No heroic first-day itinerary. Greenland was the opening chapter of our family’s journey through Denmark and the Faroe Islands, but it quickly established a rhythm entirely its own.
Then we took the boat to Camp Kangiusaq. Mountains, open water, and a whale sighting along the way. The journey was already the experience.
Off-grid. Well fed.
At camp, there was no Wi-Fi to pull us back into ordinary life. Sam and the crew made us feel welcome; reindeer salami, musk ox bolognese, and fish soup became some of the trip’s favorite meals. Even the kids agreed.

Nature without the survivalist audition. That is my Greenland. There was an outhouse, which reached my personal outdoor limit, and extraordinary food, which helped considerably.
